A mobile librarian, who used to store his books in a BIG COAT, recently wrote on the Jagans in the newspaper he writes for in his usual idiotic, illogical and venomous style sullying these great Guyanese personalities respected even by their political foes. Apparently, the COAT is suffocating him and this is seriously affecting the functioning of body and brain and hence his inability to think and reason properly.
He attempted unsuccessfully to paint a picture that Burnham was a saint and the Jagans were demons and they were worse than Burnham. But in the same article he contradicts himself when he mentions that if Burnham could only have controlled his lust for power than nobody would have respected the Jagans. The latter is mentioned as if it just incidental and had no serious consequences on the outcome of what Guyana was and is today. But he is totally wrong. It is precisely Burnham’s lust for power which wrecked this country and was the root of racial bitterness. The historical facts bring that out clear.
The BIG COAT should do well to read the pamphlet Burnham’s sister, Jessie Burnham wrote “Beware of My Brother Forbes!” during the split of the PPP in the mid 1950s. In that pamphlet she gives an insight of Burnham’s selfishness and lust for power. And that is why she remained with the PPP rather than joining up with her brother’s PNC.
He should also remember what Arthur Schlesinger, one of the main architects of the removal of the PPP and Dr. Jagan from office said in 1992. “I did a great injustice to Dr. Jagan and the Guyanese people. I am sorry for what I did.”
He also claims that the Jagans were internal dictators of the PPP and uses, Lloyd Best to support his nonsensical contention as most of his contentions are. Lloyd Best could only offer his opinion. Has he ever presented any verifiable information on the issue? He certainly has never done sp. As a lecturer at UG, he should be able to make the distinction between opinions and verifiable facts. But on another note, he has his facts totally wrong on Best who was never a personal adviser to Dr. Jagan but was appointed by the UN in 1962 as an economic adviser to the government. So it is most perplexing as to how he would have been privy to inner workings of the party. And even if he were the protocols governing his office would have prevented him from making political pronouncements. But it is the vintage style of the BIG COAT mobile librarian. He almost always has his information wrong or distorted.
He also would be aware no matter how great a person was or is he/she there will always be people who dislike or disagree with him or her. And therefore they will not have anything good to say or write about such a person and would find every opportunity to sully the person’s name. Therefore, those who left the party or were expelled will come out and say all manner of evil and ill things about its leaders. And these are the people who the BIG COAT associates with and listens to. Surely, he was never a member of the party and therefore cannot have a thorough understanding of how the internal party machinery works. But knowing who the individual is one would realise that he loves to listen to gossip, hearsay and rumours and rebrands them as facts.
On the other hand, no matter how much a person is despised there will always be people who admire and love him/her. A good example of this is Hitler. If you listen to the few who loved and admired him then the stories of the millions who suffered at his hands would simply be untrue.
Burnham’s lust for power root of destruction of Guyana
