Suspect held in Mithu murder probe

A SUSPECT has been held for the Tuesday murder of overseas-based Guyanese Ishwar Mithu, at his Peter’s Hall, East Bank Demerara home.

The man was apprehended in the area yesterday and is assisting the Police investigations.

Mithu, 65, of Lot 73 Peter’s Hall, was found dead in his bedroom, by his son, Rameshwar Mithu at about 13:00 h on Wednesday.

The hands and feet of the deceased were bound and his house, from which almost all the electrical appliances were stolen, was ransacked.

Mithu had lived alone since returning, a year ago, from the United States (U.S.) where he had lived for 35 years.

A wake for him will be held at his mother’s home, Lot 305 Herstelling, also on East Bank Demerara before he is laid to rest.

A post mortem examination is expected to be performed on his body today.

He is the second family member to have been murdered, following the unlawful killing of his brother, Puran Persaud Mithu, who was shot and killed in an Emancipation Day robbery in 1979.
