East Coast Pandits host Holi-mela

THE East Coast Demerara Pandits and Mandir Leaders are hosting a pre-Holi Mela and bazaar today at the Blossom Scheme Lawns, Enmore, East Coast Demerara.  The programme commences at 4 pm sharp and will be alcohol-free. Items include performances by a live band, ghazal singers, at least 10 different tassa groups, chowtal groups and various dance troupes from the East Coast. Two popular sound systems will also be there. The organizers are encouraging the entire country to come forward and enjoy this spectacular event to which admission is free. The East Coast Pandits and Mandir Leaders group comprises individuals from all strata of society and is aimed at the restoration of cultural events and the upholding of Sanatan Dharma.

A release from the group said it is against the desecration of scared Hindu festivals through the use of alcohol, vulgar dancing and inappropriate songs and is intent on showing the general public that there can be entertainment and fun without the destruction of society, especially youths.

The East Coast Demerara Pandits and Mandir Leaders successfully organised Pitri Paksh Satsangh in Lusignan. This is now a yearly event that attracts thousands from around the country. With the introduction of this Holi Mela, the group is targeting mainly the younger generation, not only to entertain but to also educate and teach them the values of the sacred way of life. It is also aimed at showcasing talents from the spectrum of society and the East Coast Demerara.

The group, which is free from political or other interests, is working assiduously with leaders and members of temples to help youths into uplifting themselves and their community. It is also making strides to unite all Hindus of Guyana and to get them to work coherently with each other for the sustenance of Sanatan Dharma. Parking space will be available and the group is encouraging the general public to come out and enjoy the festival of spring.
