IAC ,GT&T host Youman Nabi, Phagwah events

The Indian Arrival Committee (IAC), in collaboration with GT&T and the Muslim community, will this evening be hosting a programme of ghazals and qasseedas, “Jashne Meelaud Un Nabi” , in observance of Youman Nabi at the Theatre Guild Playhouse, Parade Street, Kingston, from 7:00pm.
Renowned Islamic singer Jameel Hussein from Trinidad & Tobago will be the featured artiste. Singers from Suriname and Guyana will also participate.

The IAC and GT&T had previously collaborated for “Rashtra Jyoti” in observance of Deepavali 2009.
The IAC will also be holding its annual Phagwah Mela “Rang Barse” at the Bath Settlement Community Centre Ground on Monday March 1, 2010, at 4:00pm.  This is the third year that the event will be held at Bath Settlement.
Entertainment will be provided by the Shakti String Orchestra along with leading Indo-Guyanese singers and dancers.
The event provides an opportunity for Guyanese to enjoy the festivities of Holi in an environment free from alcohol and gambling. Admission is free. A variety of Indian foods will be on sale.
The IAC wishes to reiterate its support of the call made by the Hindu Community of Guyana for the festival of Holi (Phagwah) to maintain its sacred form and be respected.
The IAC has noted that over the last few years, some entertainment promoters use Phagwah to encourage undesirable practices and have associated the sale of alcohol with the festival.
The IAC, which has in the past denounced such practices, urge guilty promoters to desist from indulging in such activities which bring much disrespect to the Hindu community
