Boxers inked their names to contracts
THE eight pugilists who will be on show this Friday for the first Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC)-organised Friday Night fight card at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH), yesterday committed themselves to being there when they placed their respective signatures on the dotted line. It was a simple procedure held in the boardroom of Abdool Insurance Brokers on Avenue of the Republic. Shelly Gibson, Pamela London, Dexter Marques, Orlon Rogers, Rudolph Fraser, Lewis, Edmond De Clou and Kwesi Jones affixed their signature.
According to the schedule, there will be three amateur bouts, among which is a female clash between Rene David and Ansila Charles in the flyweight division, over three rounds at two minutes per round, preceding the professional bouts which will be four rounds each at three minutes per round.
The other amateur bouts will feature Edwin Richards going up against Danishwar Narine and Dexter Jordan matching gloves with Imran Khan, with both bouts being in the flyweight division, while in the welterweight division, Bert Braithwaite will face Damian Ross to culminate things for the amateurs.
In the professional category, Gibson will face London in a heavyweight clash, Marques and Rogers in the bantamweight, Fraser and Lewis in a catchweight and De Clou and Jones in a middleweight bout.
The action punches off at 20:00 h.
