RENWRICK Gary, 45, of Lot 1 Section ‘C’ Wismar, Linden, was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Roberston on a simple larceny charge.
He pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, on February 13, he stole one ‘LG’ cellular phone, valued $45,000, property of A&N Electronics, from Shofeera Mohamed.
The defendant admitted he was in the store to purchase a phone and the virtual complainant told the Court he asked to look at two, then requested that she write a bill for one.
But, as she turned to get a receipt book, he said he did not have Guyana currency and would return.
The woman said, after about 15 minutes and he did not go back, she became suspicious and checked but discovered the phone missing from the box that contained it.
Mohamed said, subsequently, the defendant went into another of the company’s stores and, as soon as he saw her, he ran away but was apprehended after she raised an alarm.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, successfully objected to bail, on the ground that Gary is likely to disappear and the case was transferred to another Court for February 25.
Leon Peters, 18, was also refused bail in the same Court, on a break and enter and larceny charge, to which he pleaded not guilty.
It is alleged that the defendant (no address given)on February 12, broke and entered the dwelling house of Candace Kenwney and stole one laptop computer valued $379,000.
The virtual complainant said Peters is her neighbour and would, sometimes, visit her home.
She said, before the burglary, the defendant had told her he would like to learn to use a laptop and she showed him once.
The woman said, the day it was stolen, she returned home from work and saw that her wall was broken and discovered the laptop missing and other neighbours told her they saw the defendant at her front gate but he denied the theft.
His case will be called, again, on February 25.
