TWENTY-ONE-YEAR-OLD Ryan Crandon, also known as Martin was yesterday sentenced to four years imprisonment for drug trafficking. The unemployed man, of Lot 58 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, pleaded guilty to the offence, before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo, in New Amsterdam Court.
He admitted having 700 grammes of cannabis (marijuana) for the purpose of traffickin, when Police apprehended him at a February 9 roadblock on Palmyra Public Road, Corentyne, also in Berbice.
Police Corporal Roberto Figueira, prosecuting, said Crandon and four other passengers were in hire car HB 6852 when the vehicle was stopped and they were asked to identify their property.
The Prosecutor said Crandon had a bag between his feet and his suspicious action resulted in a search of it that yielded leaves, seeds and stems of the prohibited plant.
Crandon was also fined $84,000, three times the street value of the narcotic and failure to pay the fine would keep him in jail for a further four months.
