Rawle Chestney, 40, of 1038 Cummings Park, Sophia, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday to answer a fraudulent conversion charge. He pleaded not guilty to the charge, which stated that on January 13, being solely entrusted with $300,000 to purchase windows for Winston Chestney, he fraudulently converted in into his own use.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Rexford Jackson represented the defendant and told the court that his client is a building contractor. He said his client was never given the money to purchase windows. He said the money was given to his client to do other work around the house.
However, the virtual complainant said he gave the defendant the money to purchase the windows, but he never brought the windows to put on the house. He said the defendant kept promising to return the money, but never did, so he reported the matter.
The defendant was put on $150,000 bail and the matter was transferred to another court for March 10.
