Berbice Cricket Board to launch 2010 season tomorrow

THE Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) would be launching its 2010 cricket season tomorrow at the Edinburgh Community Centre Ground, East Bank Berbice, with West Berbice/East Bank/New Amsterdam/Canje Combined, playing Lower/Upper Corentyne in their annual season opener. The teams, consisting of the county’s top available players, will be vying for the John Trim Tribute Trophy under the BCB’s Tribute to Heroes Programme and the match will be a historic one for the East Bank of Berbice as it is the first time that the area will be hosting such a high profile game, as the BCB seeks to promote the game in rural areas. The West Berbice/East Bank/New Amsterdam/Canje will be led by senior Berbice opening batsman Richard Ramdeen and would have as his deputy another Berbice opener Arthley Bailey.
They would be supported in the batting department by Wahied Edwards, Seon Hetmyer, Raid Ally, Keith Fraser, Kwesi Mentore and Andrew Williams, while national fast bowler Brendon Bess spearheads the bowling attack with support from pacer Michael Newland, off-spinner Andrew Williams, Krisendat Ramoo and left-arm spinner Richard Ramdeen.
Lower/Upper Corentyne will be led by national middle-order batsman Assad Fudadin with Royston Crandon his deputy.
National captain and opening batsman Sewnarine Chattergoon, Alex Amsterdam, Eon Hooper, Anthony Bramble and Jason Sinclair will lend support to Fudadin and Crandon in the match which would be a 40 overs affair and commences at 11:00 h.
National all-rounder Esaun Crandon will share the new ball with Yougindra Harrinarine while the spinning department would be in the capable hands of national spin twins Veerasammy Permaul and Devendra Bishoo, with support from Steven Latcha, Troy Matheison and Orvin Mangru.
Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the BCB Hilbert Foster stated that the Board has decided that each year, the name of a former Test great would be placed on the trophy for the season opener starting with John Trim in 2010.
The names of the former Test stars will be placed according to the year they made their debut and as such Rohan Kanhai will be the next to be honoured in 2011.
