CXC Pays Tribute to Professor Rex Nettleford

The Caribbean Examinations Council records with profound sadness the death of former Vice Chancellor Emeritus of the University of the West Indies, Professor Rex Nettleford.

Professor Nettleford was a strong advocate of the creation of a Caribbean Civilization, of which the Council Examinations Council is a critical pillar.

Several of Professor Nettlford’s literary works inform the content of some of CXC’s syllabuses; the most noted being his 1978 book, Caribbean Cultural Identity, which has been a staple in the Caribbean Studies syllabus for the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE).

Professor Nettleford and the National Dance Theatre Company, which he founded, performed at the CXC 25th Anniversary celebrations at the Frank Collymore Hall in Barbados in 1998.

Dr Didacus Jules, CXC Registrar said “Professor Nettleford’s death leaves a significant academic and cultural void in the region, which will not easily be filled.

The Chairman, Registrar and Council extend their sincerest condolences to Professor Nettleford’s family and friends.
