Courts Guyana Inc. joins ‘New Year’s Beatings’ bandwagon

… Steve’s Jewellery also pitches in
COURTS Guyana Inc. is among the latest of the corporate sponsors to get on board with Holland’s Entertainment Promotions’ (HEP) “New Year’s Beatings” showdown, which is set for this coming Friday, January 29, at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH), as the organisation handed over $400 000 towards the event at its Main Street branch yesterday.

Courts Country Manager Lester Alvis hands over the cheque for $400 000 to Peter Abdool, president of GBBC, while Courts staff, promoters and fighters look on.

The proceeds from the highly anticipated event will go towards the Haiti relief fund a fact that, according to Courts’ Public Relations Officer, Zeya Nasir Ramnauth, makes the donation to the venture more fulfilling. “Since the profits will be donated to Haiti we at Courts are very pleased to support this venture,” she said.

Country Manager Lester Alvis also expressed his pleasure with the charitable nature of the event saying, “Courts is putting its best foot forward, as this is another way Courts is doing its best to assist with the Haiti relief efforts.”

He drew much attention to Courts being an avid supporter of boxing over the past years and this stems from the corporation’s goal to afford youths the opportunity at a better future as the corporate giant fosters a commitment to young people.

Peter Abdool, the president of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC), thanked Courts for never being hesitant to lend its support. He acknowledged the organisation as a flagship supporter of boxing who highly understands the importance of such sponsorship.

Carwyn Holland of HEP reiterated the gratitude that was showered upon Courts and said that their generosity has led him to the opinion that great recognition should be given to Courts for their staggering amount of contributions over the years.

He related that the initial idea was to make admission to the event free as a way of giving back to the boxing fans who always come out to support the various fights but this could not have been the case since the required funding was not obtained.

Holland, however, stated that he is moving on to bigger and better things as he has a number of international cards set to take place in territories such as St Lucia, Barbados, Trinidad and even Canada.

Another show of corporate generosity came in the form of the monetary donation made by Steve’s Jewellery. Managing Director of the establishment, Steve Narine, disclosed that he was elated to help in the improvement of boxing by assisting in sponsorship for the event.

The card is expected to see a new beginning for Clive Atwell and Charlton Skeete who are both making their professional debuts. It is also a brick on the path to Gwendolyn ‘The Stealth Bomber’ O’Neil reclaiming the titles that she lost to Carlette Ewell.
Another highly touted fight will see the highly feared Mitchell Rogers facing off with Anthony Augustin.
