MAGISTRATE Adela Nagamootoo, at New Amsterdam Court last Friday, remanded convicted marijuana user Clifton Ramsarran alias ‘Witch’ to prison until January 22, pending sentence.
The convict, of Number Two, Corentyne, also in Berbice, pleaded guilty to being in possession of the narcotic.
He was found to have leaves, seeds and stems of the prohibited cannabis plant when Police, acting on information received, raided his home and discovered the illegal things, weighing five grammes, on a shelf in his bedroom.
Ramsarran confessed that he would use the drug and had wrapped a portion to smoke while cooking.
He also pleaded guilty to another charge, which said he had possession of a television set, a DVD player, a travelling bag, an aquarium and other articles suspected to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained.
But the magistrate ruled that his explanation was tantamount to a not guilty plea, which she entered and postponed the trial to be scheduled. (Jeune Bailey Vankeric)
