FIRST and foremost, I must extend my sympathy to the friends and families of Haitians who have suffered numerous losses in material and human resources due to the catastrophic earthquake which destroyed the Haitian Capital a few days ago.
Thousands of lives have been lost and many persons are now homeless and critically injured.
Mr. Editor, I must commend Guyanese for their kind hearts and generous hands which I am certain would help alleviate the burden which is being carried by the survivors of the tragic earthquake.
Guyana has taken an active role in helping her sister country during its time of grief.
In a short period of time, Guyana has been able to raise a significant sum of money.
Other countries have also begun assisting in various ways, such as supplying medical equipment and treatment, sending food and money and persons who are providing care to the patients on ground.
President Jagdeo should be applauded for his effort which has led to other countries making pledges and local individuals and organisations coming forth with donations towards the National Relief effort.
Many persons will be able to benefit from the money that Guyana has already received for the said purpose, and with the assistance from other countries, Haitians will be able to get through this trying period of time.
Hopefully, more persons will take a directive from Government’s position in this matter and assist in sending relief to those affected.
