WELL-known New Amsterdam barber Elroy Trellis alias ‘Bamboo’, who was remanded to prison on three carnal knowledge charges last week Thursday, had his bail review further deferred yesterday.
Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo had previously ordered him to return yesterday but, again, postponed her decision, to next Friday.
When Trellis returned yesterday, Defence Counsel Charran Das Persaud, citing one of the grounds for the Police objection to bail, said, with the advent of mobile phones, a person can contact another wherever the individual is located.
The lawyer said the accused can abide by any condition, whether it be the lodging of his passport, staying distances away from the victim or whatever pleases the Court.
But Police Assistant Superintendent Fazil Karimbaksh relied on his previous submissions surrounding the nature, gravity and prevalence of the offence.
Trellis is charged, indictably, with having had sexual intercourse, with a girl under the age of 13 years, on December 2, 2009 and January 6 and 13, 2010, respectively.
The crimes were allegedly committed in houses at Islington, East Bank Berbice and Sheet Anchor, East Canje, all in the ‘Ancient County’, when the child was supposed to have been attending Mathematics lessons.
