Accused watch thief refused bail

MICHAEL Carter, 39, was yesterday remanded to prison on a simple larceny charge.
He appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson and pleaded not guilty to stealing a $15,000 wrist watch, on January 16, from Ricardo Jagdeo in Regent Street, Georgetown.
The defendant claimed he was walking on the street when the virtual complainant alleged that he took a watch off his stand but the one he was wearing belonged to him.
Jagdeo, however, told the Court Carter always snatches watches from his stand and was caught with the latest one he stole.
The magistrate refused Carter bail, until January 25, because he was unsure of his address.
