– urges all Guyanese to “do all that is possible to assist our sisters and brothers of Haiti”
THE People’s Progressive Party said it is shocked at the terrible devastation caused by an earth quake which struck Haiti on Tuesday last. “The images coming through speak about a disaster of major proportions,” the party said, noting that it is still not certain how many have died in the wake of the quake.
“However, we know that a large amount of buildings have collapsed including a hospital in the capital Port-A-Prince. So too is the Presidential Palace, the UN office among others,” the PPP stated.
It noted, too, that roads and other infrastructure have been destroyed. Electricity and other essential services have also been damages seriously.
The People’s Progressive Party said it supports the efforts of the Government of Guyana in providing assistance to the suffering people of Haiti in their time of extreme disaster.
The PPP said it will continue to monitor the situation and urge all Guyanese to “do all that is possible to assist our sisters and brothers of Haiti”.
“Our solidarity goes out to the government and people of our sister Caricom state,” the PPP added.
