Police investigating New Year’s Day drowning

Police are investigating the death of Felicia Jack, 27, of Bareroot Village, East Coast Demerara, who died by drowning on New Year’s Day. She was in company of six others including the boat captain, Andrew DeFreitas, en route to Kangurama in the vicinity of Tabuku Falls when the boat developed mechanical problems causing it to capsize.

The incident occurred at about 18:00 h on January 1, 2010 after the boat had departed Seamang Landing.

As a result, all the occupants were tossed into the river and they all managed to swim ashore except Jack, who disappeared in the water.

Her body was recovered from the river on January 3, 2010 at about 06:00 h.
The boat captain and the survivors were detained at the Issano Police Station and later released.
