Prime suspect in Sunday murder still at large

POLICE yesterday reported that the prime suspect in the Sunday night murder of Pascal Johnson is still at large.

The victim’s girlfriend, whom he was visiting when shot in the head, had been detained and questioned but released.

Johnson, 44, of Lot 420 East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, died early Monday morning, from a gunshot to the temple fired by a lone gunman, about 21:00 h, on Laing Avenue, also in the city.

Sister of the deceased, Shelly Johnson told the Guyana Chronicle her brother was in Laing Avenue when he received a telephone call from the woman.

“He was with some friends, not far from home and she called him to collect his cell phone and, when he got there, they had a quarrel and she arranged for him to be shot,” his sibling alleged.

She said he had visited the woman during the day and they had a loud exchange of words on the road, over money, before he left her.

The sister believes the woman lured her brother to his death and had her lover kill him because he had chased her with a cutlass earlier in the day.

The wounded man was found bleeding profusely in the head and he succumbed about 03:00 h at Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).

He had been working in the interior but returned last year and was staying with the family including his sick mother.
Johnson is also survived by six siblings.
