Three stables to battle for supremacy tomorrow

Kennard Memorial annual Boxing Day horse race …
…Over $4m in cash and prizes up for grabs
WITH over $4M in cash and prizes up for grabs, three stables namely Elcock, Jagdeo and Jumbo Stables will be battling for supremacy when the Kennard Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) runs off its 37th annual Boxing Day horse race meeting at their Bush Lot, Corentyne track tomorrow.

The day’s event will see eight races including four feature races and thunders off from 13:15 h with the I3 and Lower race.

The four feature events will see horses in the categories of C and Lower, Three years old, F Class and Two years old battling it out for supremacy in what has been an eagerly anticipated event, which is the final one on the local horse racing calendar.

In the C and Lower feature race, Irish Gel, My Son Dog, Annie’s Playmate, The Message, Sweet Caramel and Miss Republic among others will be looking to stamp their authority on the opposition in a race that will cover a distance of one mile.

It will only be seven furlongs the three-year-old horses, born and bred in the West Indies, have to cover, but with such names as Sweet Romance, Stylish Line, Zip-A-Dee-Do-Dah, Air Control and Lady of My Dreams featuring in same, it can go anyway, especially since Coconut Boy is no longer a competitor on the track.

The F Class event along with the Two-year-olds will cover only six furlongs, but Hat Trick, Laura Lee in Flight, Matarazzi, Pegasus Rising, The Gap and Face the Music in the F Class and Miss Bounty, Miracle Mind, Stormy Water, Genes’ Pride, Zion Ata and Peaceful in the two-years-old category will be looking to ride away with supremacy and bragging rights under their belts in their respective races.

Meanwhile, the Champion Jockey top prize trophy was handed over to Justice Cecil Kennard on Wednesday by Ramesh Sunich of Trophy Stall, who donates this trophy in memory of his late father Neville Sunich, who was also a winner at these meets.

However, with the track being in good condition and with sunny weather being experienced over the last two days and the same being forecast for tomorrow, surprises and upsets can certainly be the order of the day for horse owners and turfites alike.

Either way, an exciting day of racing is anticipated by all or sundry who choose to attend a meet that has been ongoing for the past 37 years at one of the oldest horse racing clubs on the Corentyne Coast in the Ancient County of Berbice.
