– over 10,000 residents to benefit from improved water supply in Linden
Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI), the nation’s supplier of water and sanitation services, yesterday advised that works have commenced on a new well at Amelia’s Ward in Linden.
The water company, in a statement, said approximately 10,000 residents of Linden will benefit from improved water supply upon completion of the new well by March, 2010.
GWI, through funding provided by the Central Housing and Planning Authority commenced works on Thursday last. The project was awarded to Nabi Construction Inc. at a cost of G$84,969,199.
GWI’s Water Resources Engineer, Marlon Daniels, stated that “this new well will be drilled to a target depth of 400 feet with the capacity of serving over 10,000 residents. As such, residents of Amelia’s Ward, Kara Kara Housing Scheme, Industrial Area and Retrieve will benefit from improved water supply.”
The beneficiaries of the project indicated that they are anticipating the completion of the well station, since these areas continue to expand, creating more demand for water.
GWI’s Scientific Services Department will perform tests to ensure that the water supplied by the new Amelia’s Ward well is safe for consumption.
