Main Big Lime to attract massive crowd

ABOUT 30,000 people are expected to attend the Main Big Lime event for which plans are on stream.

Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Manniram Prashad, makes his selection of wares displayed by a craft producer, ahead of Main Street Lime yesterday.

During an update yesterday, Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Manniram Prashad, told the media that the ministry is well prepared for the activity-packed experience on December 26.

The minister also took time out to speak with craft producers who vend their wares on Main Street.

He said many overseas patrons are expected since Guyana has been a highlight on the international community through President Bharrat Jagdeo’s Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS).

“Because of the exposure coming from President Jagdeo’s excellent marketing ability, Guyana is now on the international scene and more and more persons are coming here,” Minister Prashad noted.

Guyana was ranked number one for arrivals in the Caribbean during this year and has already seen record high numbers for December.

“Main Street Lime is a lime; even though we may have persons peddling their products; the aim is to stroll around. This is a meeting spot. It’s the fun thing for those who have not seen each other for years,” the minister said.

He stressed that the ministry has contracted Puran Bros. to undertake a massive sanitation exercise to be completed by 6:00hrs the following day.

Government has over the years, placed a lot of emphasis on the protection and well-being of its most vulnerable section of society and with Guyana celebrating a significant milestone in its country’s history with the launch of the Child Care and Protection Agency, society has seen a drastic overhaul of the way Guyana’s children are treated by all relevant agencies. On Saturday last, the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security’s Child Care and Protection Agency, in collaboration with the Chinese embassy, hosted a Christmas Party for Children of homes and orphanages, at Castellani Villas on Homestretch Avenue. In this photo, Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Priya Manickchand, is embraced by children during the Christmas Party.
