A mechanic and two employees of the Drainage and Irrigation Department of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) narrowly escaped death Wednesday afternoon while working on a low bed trailer to load a piece of iron pipe with the help of a long boom excavator machine.
Reports said mechanic Kazim Khan, another mechanic and an operator were on a low bed holding on to the piece of iron pipe to assist the driver of the excavator to load it safely on to the low bed trailer when the boom of the machine touched the 11,000 volt overhead wire and the shock knocked Khan to the ground unconscious.
The other two men were also seriously injured by the heavy voltage of electricity.
Heath workers who were in the Engineering compound assisted the injured men.
They were rushed to the hospital and were treated and sent home.
