After Charity…
CANADIAN Vision Care, in collaboration with Essequibo Lions Club, is to host an eye care clinic at Moruca, in Region One (Barima/Waini) next year February.
Club President, Dr. Leonard Dunbar said it will cater for the entire North West District.
He made the announcement after the joint team recently concluded a five-day exercise at Charity District Hospital, on Essequibo Coast.
According to him, the Canadians did free eye tests and distributed spectacles to hundreds of persons who were in need.
He said that outreach was organised and hosted by the same club, collaborating with St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Georgetown.
Dunbar said the 13-member visiting team, from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, was headed by specialist in eye care, Dr. Anthony Harrychan.
They attended 150 patients per day on that occasion but Harrychan said he previously led similar missions in this country over the past 15 years, in Essequibo eight times.
He praised Director of Regional Health Services in Guyana, Dr Narine Singh, for arranging the programme.
Harrychan said Minister of Health, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy and Minister of Labour, Mr. Manzoor Nadir also contributed immensely to the success of the undertaking, which is a regular Essequibo Lions Club venture, designed to help the needy and funded by donors in Canada.
The Club members expressed gratitude to the Canadian volunteers for paying their own way to Guyana and delivering services free of charge.
