THE National Milling Company of Guyana (NAMILCO), through its Managing Director Roopnarine `Bert’ Sukhai, has pledged its continued support to the Fruta Conquerors Annual Football festival, the third of which concluded on Friday evening at the Tucville ground.
Addressing members of the participating teams, members of the media and supporters, Sukhai, whose company sponsored the tournament at a cost of over $2M said NAMILCO will continue to support the tournament and be a part of the local football fraternity for quite a while.

The flour mill boss man said the Fruta Conquerors club has displayed honesty and integrity in the administration of the just concluded tournament which was won by Sunburst Camptown who recorded a 5-3 penalty shoot out victory over their Georgetown Counterparts BK International Western Tigers, after the two teams were tied 2-2 at the end of regulation and extra time.
For their winning efforts, the Campbellville based team; Sunburst Camptown received $500,000 and a trophy while Western Tigers received 200,000 and a trophy.

Santos who beat New Amsterdam United 5-4 to claim the third place spot received $100,000 and a trophy while the Berbice team (New Amsterdam United) collected $$50,000 and a trophy.
Western Tigers’ Dwayne Ali was voted the Most Valuable Player of the tournament, while New Amsterdam United’s Adrian Adams with seven goals to his name received the award for the Highest Goal Scorer.
Also receiving awards were Fruta Conquerors’ president Marlon Cole and Vice-president Ivor Thompson, club secretary Lavern Fraser-Thomas and Treasurer Candia Shepherd.
A number of persons that were associated with the competition also received certificates of appreciation and they included Stanley Lancaster, Abdul Hamid, Rollin Tappin, Venton Mars, Dion Inniss, Otis James, Steve James, Mark Young, Nicole Joseph, Odessa Caleb, Deon Feassal, Nykasie Liverpool, Trevor Porter, Ivor Blackman, Joel Weeks, Miguel Vieira, Neville Gulliver, Lawrence Drakes, Chris Joseph, Paul Babb, Leonard Boyce, Albert Duncan, Roy McArthur and Lawrence Griffith.
Speaking on behalf of Fruta Conquerors, Thompson, the club’s vice-president thanked NAMILCO for sponsoring the tournament for as third year and promised that the tournament will continue to be an annual one for years to come.
The former national hockey player said Fruta Conquerors is willing to make its players available to NAMILCO for the production of any of the company’s advertising projects.
He said Fruta Conquerors is very grateful to NAMILCO for assisting through its sponsorship for the construction of a club house and other facilities at the Tucville ground.
Thompson made a call of the flour company to assist with the landscaping of the outer perimeter of the Tucville ground.
NAMILCO’S Public Relations Consultant Afeez Khan in brief remarks said the milling company will continue to support the Fruta Conquerors tournament and were very pleased with the administration and conduct of this year’s tournament.
