GUYANA Power & Light Inc. (GPL) is in the final phase of testing the engines of the three 6.9 megawatts Wartsila generators that were commissioned earlier this month, Acting Public Relations Officer (PRO), Ms. Shevion Sears said yesterday.
She said the motors are working but GPL would have to follow the standard procedure which includes conducting various tests on them.
After the commissioning at the Kingston Power Plant, in Georgetown, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mr. Bharat Dindyal had told the media the engines will continue to be tested, as is mandatory with all new equipment, to ensure stable and continued generation of electricity to the national grid.
He said the infrastructure for the transmission interconnecting system is in place and, within 48 hours, the verification of testing would have been completed.
Dindyal said this will result in more reliable and uninterrupted electricity supply to customers.
He also assured that blackouts due to generation shortfall will be minimal but appealed to users to conserve on usage, especially during the hectic Christmas season, to allow the system to sustain output and facilitate a smooth transition to the new, improved 69 kv transmission lines.
Dindyal said GPL appreciates the patience its customers exercised during power outages and pledged that the utility will continue to implement programmes for raising the level of service it provides.
