Inmates and staff members at Mazaruni Prison last Saturday received medical check-ups and treatment from a visiting team of seven medical personnel of the Ministry of Health. Medex Theresa Moore said that the outreach was a success and the services were welcomed by the inmates and staffers. Ninety four persons benefited from the outreach .Nineteen tooth extractions and 34 eye examinations were done, among other general checks that included blood pressure and diabetes testing. She said persons who were examined had no serious illnesses. The medical outreach will be conducted on monthly basis so as to ensure that both inmates and staffers remain healthy.(GINA)
The team comprised two Medex, a physician, a dentist and a nurse. The team arrived during the morning hours to administer medical check-ups and to discuss medical issues affecting inmates and staff members.
