TWO men, charged in connection with the robbery of a fishing vessel last June, yesterday appeared before Magistrate Priya Beharry charged with receiving stolen property.
Ramesh Ramsingh called ‘Chinese,’ 36, of Lot 28 Grove, and Ricardo Guyadeen, 19, of Section ‘E’ Laund Stelling, both East Bank Demerara addresses, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
It is alleged that, between June 1 and August 7, at Grove, they conspired with each other, and with others unknown, to receive one stolen Yamaha 55 Horse Power engine, belonging to Martin Jones, knowing it to be stolen or unlawfully obtained.
According to Police Sergeant Krishnadat Ramana, prosecuting, the virtual complainant lives in Suriname and in June last, his fishing vessel was robbed by three armed bandits in French Guiana waters.
He said two of the bandits were recognised to be ‘Jackie’ of Suriname and Pandir Ramsingh called ‘Monster’ of Grove, who is the brother of Ramesh Ramsingh.
On the day in question, Ramana said a ‘sting’ operation was set up by Police officers and both defendants were caught trying to sell the engine at Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara.
Ramsingh and Guyadeen were released on $100,000 bail each and the case will be called again on September 4. (Telesha Persaud)
