IT is no surprise that the Kaieteur News is once again exposed for its vindictive journalism. This goes to show that the views of this newspaper must be taken with a pinch of salt to digest its uncertainty and scandalous ethics.
I believe the contractor’s response is long overdue to highlight the poor reporting and slander journalism practiced by the Kaieteur News. It is also not surprising that the Kaieteur News sought to hide the facts by cutting the response of the contactor while other newspapers carried it in its entirety.
The Guyanese public is now of the view that this newspaper is not a reliable source of information and must not be taken seriously as the response by the contactor has challenged all previous reports by the newspaper as inaccurate. The response by the contactor is very telling and for the benefit of the Guyanese public I urge this newspaper to respond to some of the factual claims of the contactor, rather than beat around the bush and put a spin on the issue.
The reporters that crafted the Stanleytown report interviewed a semi-skilled labourer at the site and failed to ask critical questions or got answers for their questions. The labourer is not trained to respond to journalist and the reporters failed to realise this reality or it could be deliberate. The reporters should have been trained to use tact in realizing an objective report rather than assuming. This reiterates the fact that media representatives need adequate training, particularly, the Kaieteur News investigative team.
Finally, I am saddened at the state of investigative journalism practiced by this newspaper, which the contractor exposed. As such I would highly recommend that this newspaper research what investigative journalism is really all about. The basics of investigative journalism are available on the internet free of charge.
