Inter-Market f/ball tourney…
STEWARTVILLE/Leonora edged East Ruimveldt 1-0 while Bourda demolished Ann’s Grove 5-2 when play in the Inter-Market Football continued on Friday evening at the GFC ground. Owen McGarrell found the back of East Ruimveldt’s net in the 22nd minute to secure a place in the quarter-final round of the competition which commences on Thursday.
In the feature game, a hat-trick of goals by Manasseh Primo enabled Bourda to upstage Ann’s Grove Market by a 5-2 margin.
Ann’s Grove opened the scoring with Charles Gevon finding the back of the net in the 7th minute with a well-placed shot that had Bourda’s goalkeeper on all fours.
However, Bourda, with the best-looking team on paper and on the field, regrouped and equalised in the 26th minute with an Andrew Gibson goal. At halftime the score was 1-1 with both teams playing excellent football.
Manasseh Primo came into the picture with a superb goal in the 46th minute. Stellon Bourne extended the lead to 3-1 with a goal in the 56th minute.
Ann’s Grove let their presence felt with Jason Clarke scoring in the 60th minute.
At that stage the score was 3-2 in favour of Bourda and Ann’s Grove looked to threaten.
But former youth national and Fruta Conquerors forward Primo had other ideas and slipped in two more goals in the 64th and 66th minutes to take the game away from Ann’s Grove.
The competition continues on Tuesday with the final set of first round games.
At 18:00 h, Vendors Arcade will tackle Wismar Market and at 20:00 h Stabroek Market will collide with New Amsterdam Market.
