National Media, Prime News & Channel 9 sued for libel

BUSINESSMAN Lionel Wordsworth yesterday sued National Media and Publishing Company Ltd., Prime News Inc., Blackman & Sons Inc. and Channel 9 for damages in excess of $150, 000 for libel and slander and an injunction.

The endorsement of Claim against the defendants reads:-

(a) Damages in excess of $50, 000 against the first named Defendant for libel published by the first named Defendant’s agents and servants and which publication appeared in its Kaieteur News Newspapers the 29th July 2009 at paged 15 and on its website www.kaieteurnews.com on the 29th July, 2009;

(b) Damages in excess of $50,000 against the second named defendant for Defamation (slander) broadcast on the second defendant’s newscast, Prime News on the 28th July, 2009.

(c) Damages in excess of $50, 000 against the third named defendant for Defamation (slander) broadcast on the third named Defendant’s television channel , “HBTV channel 9”, on the 28th July, 2009.

(d) an injunction restraining the first, second and third named Defendants and each of them, whether by themselves, their servants, agents or otherwise, whomsoever or howsoever from further writing, publishing, printing, circulating or broadcasting or causing to be written, published, printed, circulated or broadcast any similar defamatory statements against the plaintiff.

The defendants have been given 10 days after service to enter appearance.
