Home Affairs Ministry undergoes modernisation

– part of Citizens Security Programme
Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee, yesterday met with a consultancy team to discuss one of the three components of the Citizens Security Programme which deals with the modernisation of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The first meeting was held to discuss the initiative which will benefit all departments falling under the jurisdiction of the Ministry, which would complement the other two components: the modernisation of the police force and the community action component.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has direct oversight of the Guyana Police Force (GPF), Guyana Fire Service (GFS), Guyana Prison Service (GPS), General Register Office, the Police Complaints Department and the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit.

One of the main issues that will evolve from this modernisation is the preparation of a strategic plan.

Through the modernisation of the Ministry, there is to be an operational plan and some restructuring in the areas of Human Resources, Finance and Auditing, Development, Public Relations, Registry, Operations within the Ministry and Documentation.

Government will be financing this initiative through negotiations with the Inter-American Development Bank.

The consultancy team is a part of the Emergence Group located in Washington, D.C, and the members are Directors David Bodie and Dan Waddington, and Project manager Lisa Konrath.

The members all have extensive experience in the law enforcement area and will be working with the Ministry of Home Affairs in a short-term consultancy which will last approximately 12 months. (GINA)
