MEMBER of Parliament (MP) in French Guiana Chantal Berthelot, met Prime Minister Samuel Hinds on Tuesday on the first of a series of visits in Guyana focusing on the environment. Prime Minister Samuel Hinds is at present performing the duties of President. Several historical and current commonalities between French Guiana and Guyana were discussed during the meeting with the Prime Minister, including the newly constructed Takutu River Bridge. As a specialist in the environment, Ms Berthelot expressed her interest in learning more about Guyana’s Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) which she became aware of a few months ago. Berthelot believes that such a topic warrants collaboration between Guyana and French Guiana, noting that the value and preservation of forests are very important.
The MP was accompanied by Ambassador of France to Suriname and Guyana Richard Barbeyron and Assistant Lawrence Murielle.

She continued paying courtesy calls yesterday on other government officials.
