Convinced that you can never please human beings

I am now convinced that you can never please human beings. It is very good to have vision and to have a sense of moral, ethical, spiritual and economical elevation but I can remember my grandfather (nana) saying that “contentment now, will cause you to be happy just now and discontentment will only bring you pains and sorrows”.

As a re-migrant from the United States of America, getting another opportunity to live the later years of my life in my place of birth and country of birth is something I should thank the almighty for.

Recently, I see many persons and articles, particularly in the Kaieteur News, making references to the places I grew up, Canal # 1 and 2. Some are for it and some against what is happening here. I wish to refer back in time when there was not even a proper road in Canals 1 & 2, when farmers were not even catered for and when the times were so bad even if you had a flood, you had to shut up and remain quiet.

Now it’s totally different… The government is putting in facilities, infrastructures, and carrying out all these projects in this area just for the benefit of the farmers and some are bent on creating mischief and painting a false picture of corruption as in the articles published in Kaieteur News. I feel sorry to say this but it seems like this newspaper does not appreciate the progress being made by the Agriculture Ministry. This is the very reason that other countries in the world are developing at very rapid paces and we have to sometimes sit and watch. It’s not because of the government but the attitude of the people that has to be changed. The Newspaper should state its position of agriculture development which is the backbone of the economy.

I hope that this generation will pace up the development of this nation and avoid negative thinking like this scandalous newspaper some of which we witnessed over the past few days. We must learn to forget about small issues and move on. Stop crying over spilled milk.

I hope that the works being done in Canals’ # 1 & 2 will be appreciated by the farmers and other activists who seek to gain political mileage by superfluous comments. I commend those who seek to move agriculture forward in this country since it’s our economy’s backbone.
