Dog owner charged after neighbour bitten

POLICE have charged Stanley Prashad, 60, of Lot 351 Sachi Bazaar Street, Prashad Nagar, Georgetown, after his dog allegedly bit his neighbour, Juliana Veiga.

The defendant appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday on a charge of causing his animal to be at large.

Particulars of the offence said, last July 13, Prashad caused his unmuzzled, ferocious dog to be at large, resulting in injuries to Veiga.

Prashad pleaded not guilty and his lawyer, Mrs. Deborah Kumar said Veiga is in the habit of walking her dog in front of the defendant’s home.

Defence Counsel said some kind of animosity developed between Veiga’s and Prashad’s dogs and they started barking at each other.

According to Kumar, Prashad’s, unfortunately, escaped through his gate and Veiga was holding hers to her chest which caused her to be bitten instead.

Veiga said the dog bit her on both legs but Kumar assured the Court that Prashad has since strayed the offending animal away from his premises and there is no likelihood of a recurrence.

Prashad was granted $30,000 bail and the case will be called, again, on July 29.
