FARAH Sattaur

FARAH Sattaur, whose father Shammie Sattaur was from Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara, is on the verge of realising her dream of making it in the world of modelling after reaching the finals of Miss England 2009.

The 23-year-old, of Camden Town, London, hopes success in the competition will lead to bigger things.

Ms Sattaur has harboured dreams of modelling since she was at Primary School, but it wasn’t until she was 17 and won Miss Teen Philippines UK that she began to believe her dream could become a reality.

She said: “To win would be amazing, and would be a real life-changing event, but even if I don’t win, I can take it as good experience and still move on with my career.

“I have always loved performing, and I would love to combine modelling and acting. I have taken part in quite a few pageants in the past, but this is by far the biggest. I have won competitions in the past, but I won’t go in thinking that I’m going to win. I will just do my best and see what happens.”

The finals are set to be held at the Hilton London Metropole hotel today and tomorrow. Competitors will have to participate in an eco-round, where their outfits will be inspired by the 1970s, an evening wear round, and a swimwear round.

Ms Sattaur, who recently finished second in the Miss Asian Beauty Queen 2009 competition, said: “My family and friends have helped me to get my outfits together and I am trying to make sure that what I wear on the night will be comfortable.”

She added: “I’m a part-time sales consultant at the moment, but would love to model full-time, as it’s all I’ve ever wanted.”

The winner will go on to the Miss World competition, due to take place in South Africa later this year.
