2009 Junior CASA Championships
GUYANA’S Girls’ team sent out a stern warning to their opponents when they completely demolished Bermuda 5-0 in the team semifinal of the 2009 Junior CASA Championships in Barbados.
After disposing of Barbados 3-2 and Jamaica 4-1 in the group phase, the Guyanese girls were in no mood to be generous as they tuned up for tomorrow’s final against Trinidad and Tobago.
The Trinis surprised Jamaica in their semifinal when, Charlotte Knaggs upset Jessica Perkings to give the Twin Island Republic the eventual 3-2 win.
That result meant that the Guyanese Boys would have had to get past Bermuda last evening if the team had any hopes of retaining the overall title, as Trinidad were almost certain to take care of a depleted OECS team in the other Boys’ semifinal last evening.
The Girls’ and Boys’ finals are scheduled for today.
In results from the Girls’ semi-final on Friday, Victoria Arjoon (Guy) defeated Emma Keane 11-2, 11-6, 12-14, 12-10 in the Under-15 age group; Ashley Khalil (Guy) beat Alex Marshall 11-0, 11-2, 11-3 in the Under-17 age group; Keisha Jeffrey (Guy) defeated Juliette Ferrari-McComb 11-4, 11-4, 11-1 in one of two Under-19 matches, while in the other Under-19 match, Kayla Jeffrey (Guy) defeated Jenny Schroder 11-2, 11-0, 11-1 and in the Under-13 category, Akeila Wiltshire (Guy) defeated Brittany Wall 11-4, 11-2, 11-5.
