‘No motive’ for shooting of shopkeeper

TRINIDAD EXPRESS – Despite the numerous rumours and speculation spreading through the Petit Valley community about the shooting death of Rajwanti “Judy” Badri, police are still to put together a motive for the shooting.

Badri, a 52-year old shopkeeper, was shot dead in the mini-mart she ran on Morne Coco Road on Sunday afternoon.

Many residents speculate the shooting was a hit, possibly connected to a pending trial stemming out of the murder of her daughter Melissa Akong and attempted murder of Sue Mara Akong on July 3, 2005. Another rumour circulated that a land dispute may have led to the incident on Sunday.

Badri, residents told the Express, operated the shop as she usually did up till her death on Sunday. Relatives of the Guyanese-born Badri declined comment when approached at the Forensic Science Centre in St James while awaiting the results of her autopsy.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
