GUYANESE men’s wear designer, Andrew Harris, has been making quite a name for himself not just in Barbados where he now resides but in other Caribbean islands as well. For starters, he officially launched his 2009 casual wear collection in late May at the annual BMEX (Barbados Manufacturers Exhibition) International Trade Fair in Barbados, where he was easily one of the most applauded among the stellar line-up of designers on show.

More recently, he was a participant in what has been described as a major fashion event for St.Vincent, this being its annual Carnival Catwalk to which he took pieces from his latest collection with a few additions.
Currently back on terra firma in Barbados, the former model turned designer is busy preparing for the upcoming Guyana Fashion Weekend billed for August.

The AHMW (Andrew Harris Menswear) label features pieces that are not just unique and innovative, but the embodiment of masculinity. The designs are reportedly inspired by nature and at times feature elements of Europe and other contemporary modes of fashion in fabrics such as Italian linen, cotton, and drill.
Bold paintings and hints of macrame are said to be trademarks of the AHMW line of clothing, that are usually complemented by one-of-a-kind handcrafted men’s bags and accessories made from leather, burlap, mango wood, copper and beads all accentuated with an acrylic finish.
Word is that since his showing at BMEX, Andrew’s clientele has not just seen a significant increase, but also afforded him the opportunity of dressing Prime Minister, Mr David Thompson as well as other government officials, and lawyers among other influential people on the island, including members of the Soca Band, ‘Krosfyah’.
And pretty soon, persons will be able to pick up pieces from his line at Prasix, a store exclusively for me in Bridgetown.
