THIS WEEK, the accent is on Sonia Noel’s Hybrid Collection, which had its debut to rave reviews at Fashion Week Trinidad & Tobago, held in the twin-island republic in late May.

According to the veteran designer, her line pays tribute to the vegetation of Guyana, with special focus on the undergrowth, swamps and savannahs, where a variety of flora and fauna live in symbiotic harmony.
Thus inspired by nature, she played around a bit with green of all shades, juxtaposing them on occasion with hints of aubergine, lilac, mauve and purple to better bring out the subtle interplay between forest and wildlife, while celebrating the natural coexistence of varying species of plant life.
In these photos, Noel gives new meaning to the term mini, awakening on occasion heady memories of bygone days at the Ascot. The pieces are complemented by hats and handbags.
