Belfield Tigers crush Mid Section 5-1 to win Inter-Block title

… Victoria Kings beat Buxton 2-0, female G/t defeat Kings 3-0
BELFIELD Tigers crushed Mid Section 5-1, to claim the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport/Victoria Inter-Block Football title on Sunday night at the Victoria Community Centre ground.

The Morrison brothers – Ryan and Rolston

In the opening encounter of a triple-header card that was witnessed by a huge crowd who braved the rainy weather condition and chilly night, Victoria Kings Under-17 had to work hard to defeat their determined Buxton counterparts 2-0, while in the main supporting match, a Georgetown female XI defeated their Victoria Kings counterparts 3-0.

In the feature match, both teams fielded star players from the Georgetown and East Coast Premier Leagues.

Former national Under-17 player Rolston ‘Crespo’ Morrison, one of three brothers on Belfield Tigers side, netted his first of two goals in the 19th minute after Reuben Morris of Mid Section Lions made a bad pass and Morrison, who was very busy, pounced on the ball and shot hard and wide of the advancing goalkeeper Robin Collins, who had a very rough night between the uprights.

Eight minutes later Morrison rocked the net again from just inside the 18 yard box, after he received a cross from Aubrey Gibson.

Orin Elias once again showed his class and made the Tigers’ last defender, Sherlock Dowden, look scrappy as he dribbled him twice and shot hard to the first post but the Lions’ keeper made a good save.

Trailing 0-2 going into the second session, Mid Section made two changes. Marlis Johnson and Dewayne Stephens came in for Dwayne Marks and Kurt Adams but were plunged into further trouble when captain and playmaker Andrew Holder was red-carded for ungentlemanly conduct.

Ryan Morrison then made it 3-0 for the eventual winners in the 62nd minute.

Aubrey Gibson pushed his tally of goals to six in the 69th minute when he tapped in a cross from Kempton Williams, and Reuben Morris pulled one back for the Lions in the 80th minute when he scored with a well-taken left-foot shot to beat Belfield custodian. Ryan Morrison added his second goal of the night when he beat Mid Section goalkeeper Ron Collins.

In the Under-17 match, Victoria Kings dominated the first half but failed to capitalise on the many chances that were created by the overlapping defender and captain Calvin De Souza.

After a goalless first half, Kings injected fresh legs. Mikel Frank replaced Ken Gulliver and Carlos Murphy was replaced by Keith Williams.

This immediately changed the tone of the game as Delroy Thomas rocked the back of the opposition’s net in the 52nd minute.

Thomas netted his second in the 83rd minute to give the Kings a 2-0 victory.

The last time the two teams met the Kings had the upper hand with a 1-0 victory.
