PRESIDENT Bharrat Jagdeo’s Press and Publicity Officer at the Office of the President Mr. Kwame McCoy has expressed concern at what he says is a deliberate attempt by the Kaieteur newspaper to “twist” and “slant” comments he had made, in a news article published yesterday.
McCoy said the article in yesterday’s Kaieteur news, titled, ‘We don’t have to announce all of Jagdeo’s trips’, is completely misleading and “it would appear as though my comments were deliberately twisted which highlights a trend over the last few months” by that newspaper.
“Over the weekend, Kaieteur news reporter Mr. Gary Eleazer questioned me about the whereabouts of His Excellency Bharrat Jagdeo and whether he (the President) hadn’t an obligation to announce his overseas travels in advance of leaving Guyana.”
“My response to him entailed a confirmation that President Jagdeo was in Canada attending the Guyana Festival and a reminder that the President generally reports on his overseas engagements but does not necessarily always announces his departure in advance of leaving Guyana,” McCoy explained.
“It is amazing how my comment was misunderstood to the extent of the reporter’s slanted version. There were previous occasions on which I have had to either clarify misleading statements or demand corrections to Kaieteur news articles that discounted balance and objectivity,” McCoy stated.
