Remanded overnight on conspiracy, forgery charges

DEVON Searles, 27, of Lot ‘II’ Bent Street, Wortmanville, was yesterday remanded to prison overnight, by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, on charges of conspiracy and uttering a forged document.

He pleaded not guilty to both offences.

Particulars of one charge said, on March 19, 2008, with intent to defraud, he uttered, to a Police Lance Corporal, a forged driver’s licence, purporting to show it was issued by Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) Licensing Office.

The other allegation against Searles is that, on December 12, 2005, he conspired with persons unknown to forge one driver’s licence, purporting to show that it, too, was a GRA issue.

Police Inspector Denise Griffith, prosecuting, successfully objected to pre-trial freedom for the defendant, on the ground that he was previously in Court but, having been granted liberty, never returned for trial.
Searles has to be back in Court today.
