THE state-owned Guyana Oil Company (Guyoil), celebrating 33 years of providing service in Guyana, will be expanding its services soon with a new service station in the developing Diamond area on the East Bank Demerara.

This was disclosed by Castrol Brand Manager, Mr. Leonard Khan, speaking to the Guyana Chronicle last Sunday, at a family fun day hosted at the Everest Cricket Ground, Georgetown, to mark the company’s anniversary.

Employees of the company and their families and friends enjoyed a packed day of activities, including lots of games for the children, face painting and cricket, coupled with music and lots to eat and drink.

Khan said apart from marking the company’s achievements, the activity is also to recognise the efforts and contribution of its employees over the years.

“This is an annual event,” Khan underscored.

One of the major challenges for the company, in light of the rising cost of fuel, has been to try to keep the price down as much as possible, for the benefits of consumers.

He observed that with the current economic situation, companies are looking at cutting jobs and costs in various areas to cope with the situation. He said, “One of the challenges is to ensure that we do not go to the extent where we have to see any kind of job loss at Guyoil.”

He said, “Guyoil, over the years, has opened ‘lube bays’ where we service vehicles at a fair price with state-of-the art equipment.”

“We have been working towards that and we have achieved two so far; and one of the aims this year is to put up a service station in Diamond (East Bank Demerara),” he announced.

Khan revealed that this project is expected to commence within another two months.
