OLD Fort Hockey Club held Hikers to a 2-2 draw when the two teams met on Friday in a Farfan and Mendes Division One fixture at the GCC ground.
Dwight Peters and John Abrams netted for Old Fort in the 1st and 45th minutes respectively, while Jerazeno Bell (26th) and Shane Samuels 42nd) responded for Hikers. Old Fort, who dominated most of the first session in Friday’s game, secured their first point in the competition after three matches.
They lost by 1-2 margins to both Hikers and GCC in their previous two matches.
Hikers with one point from the drawn match on Friday have progressed to five points from a win and two drawn games, while GCC are second in the points standing with four points from a 2-1 win against Old Fort and a 2-2 draw against Hikers.
However, the Bourda team will be seeking to go to the top of the standing tomorrow when they oppose Hikers at the same venue from 16:45 h.
On Friday, Peters sent his team into the lead in the very first minute, but Bell replied for Hikers to level the score seven minutes into the second session.
Samuels ensured Hikers went ahead after scoring a scorcher from the top of Old Fort’s `D’, but three minutes later, Old Fort’s Aderemi Simon made a cross from the centre of the field to Ivor Thompson on the right side inside Hikers’ 25-yard area.
Thompson then played the ball across Hikers’ goal mouth in the `D’ and found Abrams waiting patiently to collect and finish well into an open goal, as Hikers’ custodian had already advanced off his line and was flat on the ground. (Michael DaSilva)
