Alleged wife killer succumbs

– after ingesting poison and stabbing self
THE Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara man who ingested poison and stabbed himself on Tuesday, after he allegedly killed his reputed wife, died at Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) yesterday morning.

Murdered Omawattie Kallicharran called Reshma.

Relatives who went to visit Vishnudat Tejram, in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), found his bed empty and were, subsequently, informed of his death.

An earlier report said the 37-year-old Tejram, of Lot 154 New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, fatally knifed Omawattie Kallicharran called Reshma, 31, of Lot 31 La Jalousie Estate, also on West Coast Demerara.

It was reported that, in a fit of rage, he forcibly took the woman to his sister’s home at Canal Number Two Polder, West Bank Demerara where he committed the dastardly stabbing.

Kallicharran was on her way to the city, to uplift a travel document from the Passport and Immigration Office, when she was intercepted by Tejram and forced into a taxi about 11:00 h.

His distressed relatives told the Guyana Chronicle that he left for work Tuesday morning without taking breakfast and seemed upset about something which he did not disclose.

They said he became enraged after learning that his victim had reportedly made plans to take their four-year-old son to Trinidad.

According to his family members, the boy’s mother had kept him away from his father who was supporting him financially.

The murder/suicide has left both families in much grief and the boy without parents and Police are investigating the tragedies which began to unfold about 13:00 h on Tuesday, at South Section, Canal Number Two Polder.

Kallicharran and Tejram had shared a common law relationship but separated about two years ago.

Kallicharran’s body had stab wounds and her throat was slashed, prior to her being pronounced dead on arrival at West Demerara Regional Hospital.

Tejram is suspected to have drunk a poisonous liquid and cut his own throat as well and Police recovered three knives, one of which was bloodstained, in the Canal Polder yard where the woman was murdered.
