A Guyana Power and Light Ltd. (GPL) transformer in the city exploded yesterday sending scores of people scurrying for cover.

The Guyana Fire Service (GFS) arrived on scene quickly but had to wait for about half of an hour for the GPL emergency crew to arrive and disconnect the power before they doused the flames.

The crew was on the scene after a media operative called a GPL official, and then GPL Chief Executive Officer Bharrat Dindyal and his crew arrived.
