Upstairs burglar jailed for 16 months

ACTING Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle yesterday sentenced Terry Ramcharran, 38, of Lot 181 Fourth Street, Alexander Village, Georgetown, to 16 months imprisonment for break and enter and larceny.

The prisoner pleaded guilty to having, on May 22, broken into the dwelling house of Ken Singh and stole two gold earrings valued $8,000.

The convict claimed he saw the jewels outside the house and took them but did not commit the burglary downstairs of where he lives.

He said, when the virtual complainant told him about the jewellery loss, he went back to a pawn shop where he had pawned the items and redeemed them.

On the contrary, Singh said he had secured his home and gone out but returned to find a window open and, upon checking, discovered the valuables missing.

Police Corporal Munilall Seetaram, prosecuting, said the convicted Ramcharran has four similar charges pending in Court.
