GDF mourns death of senior officer

Commander 2 Infantry Battalion (Res), Guyana Defence Force, Lieutenant Colonel Alonzo Hartley, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital yesterday afternoon.
He was 45 years old.

Lt Col Hartley had earlier completed a game of squash at Base Camp Ayanganna and was on his way home when he complained of feeling unwell.

He is survived by his wife Delicia Hartley, two children, Zonel and Dexter, his mother Yvonne, brother Aubrey, and several other siblings. He was a kind, loving and adorable husband and father, and will be greatly missed by his wife and family.

Lt Colonel Hartley enlisted as an Officer Cadet in the GDF and completed the Standard Officers Course # 12 in 1982. He was promoted through the ranks to Lieutenant Colonel on January 2005. He completed several military courses locally and abroad, earning a Master’s Degree in Military Operations in Brazil in 2004.

The Chief-of-Staff, Officers and Other Ranks of the Guyana Defence Force extend their sincere condolences to the wife, children and relatives and friends of the late Lt Colonel Alonzo Hartley.
