A TWENTY-SEVEN-YEAR-OLD fisherman is suspected to have committed suicide by hanging, after his body was found on Tuesday in an abandoned house at Back Street, Paradise, on Essequibo Coast.
The lifeless body of Samran Sukhan nicknamed ‘Lover’ was discovered dangling from the verandah at the end of a piece of electrical wire.
His wife, Chandrowti Persaud called Sally said he left their Parika, East Bank Essequibo home last Friday to go on a fishing trip.
She had gone to see him off at a wharf and was surprised to hear about his demise when she received a telephone call.
The woman said she was also told that her husband was behaving in an abnormal manner and was thrown off the boat by other fishermen while at sea.
But Paradise residents informed the Guyana Chronicle that Sukhan made two attempts to end his life about 08:30h but the electrical cord snapped before he succeeded.
Persaud said villagers did try to persuade him against taking his life but he did not listen to them and, instead, ran up and down the road crying out that someone was trying to kill him.
Suhkan’s family has a suicidal history, with two others having died after ingesting poison and by hanging.
But Police are investigating his death.
