Charles elected St Lucia’s new cricket chief

CASTRIES, St Lucia, (CMC) – Former Windward Islands captain Julian Charles has been elected president of the St Lucia National Cricket Association.

The 48-year-old Charles beat contender businessman Trevor Philip for the top post, in the election of officers at the weekend.

Charles won the support of nine affiliates compared to four by Philip, who was trying to make a comeback after having served as president in the past.

A banker by profession, Charles entered the race holding the posts of president of the Castries Cricket Association, chairman of the Windward Islands and St Lucia senior selection committees.

Patrick Felix was voted first vice-president, Shaun Alcindor as second vice-president, with Elizabeth Williams remaining on the executive as third vice-president. She is expected to remain as the point member for the development of women’s cricket.

Former Windward Islands Under-19 opener Shawn Edward was elected as the new principal secretary with Timothy James holding the post of secretary.

Precillus Simon will serve as treasurer while Bryan Calixte, who did not seek re-election, will remain on the executive as immediate past president.
